in Uncertain times

Teaching Mindfully

(8-week or 6-month options)

As a teacher, you are tasked with taking on multiple roles – nurturer, therapist, social worker, conflict negotiator and behaviorist, in addition to your primary role in educating children. This course is designed to help you develop a practice of self-care and wellness to navigate the

stress you face both in and out of the classroom. Whether or not you choose to incorporate mindfulness strategies in your class, both you and your students will benefit from your personal practice. There is a specific focus on non-judgmental awareness, fostering compassion for yourself and others, mindful communication strategies and preventing burn-out. The final 2 classes in this course include in-classroom introduction of mindfulness to your students.

 

Supporting Teacher wellbeing

​

Never has there been a more important time or opportunity to focus on wellness and understand its impact on improving teaching methods and preventing burnout. It is essential to provide this care to our educators, first and foremost. This time is dedicated to establishing habits of care and developing webs of support. We will look at aspects in both learning models of building community, setting healthy boundaries and reasonable expectations, and maintaining elements of personal well-being through the challenges ahead. 

 

A Mindful Approach to Teaching Adolescents

This workshop is designed to bring a greater sense of purpose and awareness to teaching the current generation of teenagers. They think, communicate, and relate to others differently from the generation before. We will focus on fundamental mindfulness skills and strategies, understanding of how the adolescent brain functions, recognizing behaviors and symptoms of anxiety and creating a productive and purposeful learning environment.

 

Mindful Classrooms

​

Create a learning environment that is connected, collaborative, and engaged. Mindful Classrooms addresses some of the issues challenging teachers everyday - including communication and behavior issues, transitions from activity to learning, and classroom management tools. We will discuss utilizing specific sensory tools and exercises, identifying behavior as a form of communication, focusing on interactions and tone of voice, establishing systems of self-regulation and peer-regulation, and fostering resilience for both teacher and student.

Integrating SEL & Trauma Informed Strategies

​

This workshop is designed to provide techniques to incorporate relevant social-emotional skills into already existing lessons and in real-time moments. There is a specific focus on integrating opportunities for both teacher and student to communicate emotions, learn from mistakes and highlight the importance of practice and process. Specific attention will be placed on modeling SEL skills, utilizing creative methods to navigate the impacts of stress and employing purposeful language to promote strengths-based, asset- informed interactions and connections.

Building Supportive School Communities

​

Adults who model social-emotional skills and a mindful approach to interactions provide an example of the values, acceptance and patience necessary to support one another and a new generation of creative thinkers, problem solvers and global citizens. This workshop focuses specifically on communication skills, team-building, stress management, creating positive support networks, and the significance of modeling SEL through interactions & engagements with colleagues.
